Wake Up with Denmark wins prestigious award

All the attending cast, crew and friends on stage receiving the Audience Award at the Ekko Shortlist Awards 2022.

Our beloved and important short film “Wake Up with Denmark” won one of the most important and prestigious prizes at the Danish Ekko Shortlist Awards 2022 – The Audience Awards – amongst 20 other nominees.

This year’s edition of Ekko Shortlist Awards diversity prevailed through the Diversity Prize where the director of Wake Up with Denmark, Joseph Valentino Palau, was nominated amongst other high profiled nominees as for example Holy Spider, but also, as Wake Up with Denmark, the only film where the whole cast, crew and creators has a true diverse background, won righteously the important prize and made a hard statement on the importance of diverse and inclusion – especially when the all of the attending crew and cast walked up to stage to accompany the Director and co-creator/Lead role on stage to receive the prize.

Director Joseph Valentino Palau on being nominated for the Diversity Award:

I really feel honored to be nominated for the diversity award. It means that my efforts for awareness and change within the film industry are being noticed by individuals and institutions. It’s important to me that we shed like on proper representation and allow new young talent, ethnic talent, and foreign talent to tell stories from their perspective and how they choose to identify within Danish society.

Although I didn’t win the award, I do feel like all the nominees, including myself, are winners because we are all doing what we can to make a change for future generations.

Wake Up with Denmark touches on a sensitive subject on the matter of racism, identity and being a human being truth to herself. Therefore it was an important film to win the Audience Award, that was voted by the real life audience. That says something about our society going through a positive progressive change.

Lead actor Hervé Toure who also co-wrote the film says:

First of all, being a part of this team has been a great experience for me and I am grateful for that.

Winning this award just shows that we have the need for stories like this. For me it was important to show the challenges a lot POC artist go through. And I think we did it in a gracious way.

There have been some skepticism regarding the story and it’s relevancy, that’s one of the reasons I am so happy for this award. I hope that this will pave the way for more stories like this or more stories that are open for diversity, not just in skin color but also diversity of thoughts and cultures.

Director Joseph Valentino Palau further states:

To be honest, this award is the most important WUWD could win in my opinion. It shows that the audience voted for a film that spoke to them on many levels. It also, not only shows that their is an audience for these type of stories but rather a need. I believe the audience doesn’t only vote for what they like but also for what they want to see more of.

The audience voted to keep our film on the top 10 on ekko shortlist for 13 weeks (max allowed) and they voted for us to win the audience award so that the film can be acknowledged; huge thank you to the audience.

Our documentary “Unfading” now on Netflix

“Your film is on Netflix”, whispered the producer Kike in the director Jorge Rivera’s ear.

This wonderful news became a surprising reality and we are of course happy to announce that you now can watch Unfading (Imborrable) on Netflix and this is thanks to the fims producer Kike Mesa:

“Netflix is like a new Broadway, a big showcase. It was never our goal, but it’s nice that people across Europe can watch a Spanish-Danish co-production with so many good professionals at their own homes to refresh this hot summer.”

The director Jorge’s own words:

It’s very special for me to be on Netflix with Imborrable. Our premiere and trajectory was stopped by the pandemic and ever since our only wish was to show our documentary to as many people as possible. I am also very grateful for the comments we have received from people after watching the film. Our goal was to tell a story that made people discuss many topics of our life, and I think that many people begin interesting discussions after watching the film.
Daniel Bezares helped also by directing the opening sequence of the documentary, “The Danish chapter”, that tells about the director’s personal journey.

After a descition to take the leap of faith Jorge started working with film production. His debut film Unfading is a feature documentary about a supposedly cursed short film production that was surrounded by many mysterious and unexplainable events – based on a real story.

Camera X was approached to help and co-produce this wonderful exciting film and we are proud to be part of the production. Unfading is a co-production between Kandale Films, JRivera Productions and Camera X

Glam, Sweat and Tears prolongs on SVT PLAY

Today more than one million people have watched our documentary Sweat, Glam & Tears, making it a success and as a result, Swedish National Television (SVT) has decided to prolong the film on their streaming platform, SVT PLAY, for one more year.

Congratulations to Jovan, Daniel and Simon and the rest of the production team for the hard work! Thanks to Tulpa Creatives for the fruitful collaboration.

In 2018 a seed was planted by renowned Swedish/Serbian TV-personality and Director Jovan Radomir to create a documentary about Swedens only glamrock band in the 70’s, Tears. Our then-editor Daniel Bezares was approached by producer Simon Kölle to join the project and the group began making the documentary “Glam, Sweat and Tears“.

In 2021 it was aired and later published on SVT PLAY, Swedish National Television’s streaming platform.

Here are is a word from the producer Simon Kölle:

It is with immense pleasure that I can state that Tulpa Creative‘s collaboration with Camera X resulted in a documentary that SVT first showed twice on regular TV and was then shown one year on SVT PLAY.

Even before it started showing on SVT PLAY, a million viewers had seen the documentary and then the viewers continued to like it and watch it.

The viewership has been so good that SVT PLAY has now extended the documentary for a full year, and it will be available to watch there until June 6, 2023. After that, we are open to other streaming services to show the film.

Should Danish TV want to show the film, we can of course arrange it earlier.

Working with Camera X has been a delight. Very professional and Daniel really took the film seriously. First as an editor and then he was responsible for much of the story.

The documentary is created by the Swedish/Serbian TV personality and documentary maker Jovan Radomir, who before this documentary made another music documentary, about early hard rock band Thin Lizzy.

A documentary about glam rock in Scandinavia was about time. It’s inspiring and It’s exciting to see how they had to struggle in the 70s and 80s – men who wanted to put on make-up and dress in women’s clothes and play rock music. A music genre best known through artists such as David Bowie, Roxy Music, T. Rex, Sweet, Alice Cooper, The Ark, Magnus Uggla, Slade, Gary Glitter and more.

But also, other bands that are usually called glam rock such as Kiss, Lou Reed, Hanoi Rocks, Wig Wam and more.

The documentary is mainly about the Swedish band Tears, who against all odds performed music that became cult and loved by, among others, Ola Salo in The Ark. Ola is a vital part of this documentary.

Once again thanks for the collaboration with Camera X and as a producer, I am deeply proud and will happily collaborate many more times with Camera X.
